You’re invited to attend:
St. Michael’s 5th Annual Science Challenge
Thursday, February 18, 2010, at 4:00 P.M.
in the St. Michael's Student Center
Tucson is world-renowned for its optics industry and higher educational opportunities in the field of optics. St. Michael’s Annual Science Challenge: Focus on Optics extends opportunities for optics education to the elementary-school level.
Fourth and fifth grade scientists city-wide are invited to participate in hands-on activities to learn about optics. Participants will have the opportunity to:
compete for prizes against students city-wide
have fun with a variety of hands-on activities
experience a science-filled adventure
The event is open to all fourth and fifth grade students in the Tucson area. To foster a cooperative learning environment, to encourage teamwork, and to make the event more fun, the challenge is designed for teams of two students.
Each team of two will compete in the Optics Challenge (no experience necessary) and multiple hands-on activities. The Grand Prize is a Nintendo DS game system and one game for each member of the winning team. Numerous other prizes will be given to teams who complete the hands-on events. All registered participants will receive the limited-edition Science Challenge tee-shirt. Teachers and parents are invited to observe.
Please encourage students who you feel would be interested to register, or organize teams from your class. If you would like promotional postcards or more information, call Tracy Holsinger at 722-8478. Pre-registration is required, but participation is FREE.
