Holiday Events

St. Michael's Community would like to invite you to join us as we celebrate the Christmas season. We have a variety of events that may interest you.  Please read about them and join us for as many as you can.  St.%20Nick

December 4th will be a big day as it hosts both the St. Nicholas Program and the Middle School Concert.

The St. Nicholas Program will usher in the festivities as the Kindergarteners through fifth graders entertain with holiday songs.  The program is never complete without a visit from St. Nick himself bedecked in his bishop's attire and accompanied by the three sisters.  To learn more, attend the program on Dec. 4th at 1:45 in the Student Center.

At 7 P.M. on the same day, the Middle School will perform their works.  This concert will feature the expanded band, the newly formed choir, and finally the entire middle school body.  Dr. Antista and Mrs. Stout are phenomenal at eliciting wonderful music from our kids.  It is always a remarkable testimony to what these kids really are capable of doing.

On December 17th, our last day before we break for Christmas, there are many festivities.  We start with a Mexican shepherdFeast for the entire school which is eaten in our historic courtyards while being serenaded by mariachis. Shortly after lunch we start our Las Posadas event.  Children from kindergarten through 6th grade assume the roles of sheep, cows, oxen, shepherds, Mary and Joseph. The procession then parades through the campus in search of lodging for the holy couple.  As they parade, ask, and are turned away from room after room, they sing the traditional Spanish songs of the festival.  Alas, not finding refuge in any of the classrooms, they end up in the church where they, indeed, are asked to enter.

The final event is the beautiful tradition of Lessons and Carols.  This service tells the story of the first Christmas and the events leading up to it through scripture readings that are rendered by eighth graders.  There are traditional carols sung between the readings and it is a truly moving service.  At the conclusion of the service, school is dismissed for the holidays.
